Lesser Kestrel

(Falco naumanni)

The Lesser Kestrel is a kind of small falcon. It is a migratory animal that breeds across the region covering much of the old Silk Road. During breeding, it travels from the Mediterranean to Afghanistan, and from Mongolia to China. It inhabits deserts, grasslands, savannas, and rocky areas such as mountains. As a bird of prey, it eats a carnivorous diet, which consists of insects, small birds, reptiles, and rodents. On average, it may live up to approximately six years in the wilderness.
