It was with great regret that I learned of the passing of the former prime minister, H.E. Baroness Margaret Thatcher. Please accept, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, my sincerest condolences.

H.E. former Prime Minister Thatcher was truly a figure that nobly epitomized a new era of human history. Her love of freedom and her belief that all freedom-loving peoples worldwide should be allowed to steer their own destinies is of special significance for the people of my nation. Furthermore, She was a champion of equality, showing that gender is not a determinant for leadership; She will continue to be an inspiration to strong women globally. We are consoled only in that She will live on through Her powerful legacy.

Excellency, on this most grievous of occasions, please allow me once again to extend deepest condolences on this remorseful loss.
