April 16, 2015: Japan plays the leading role in the Asia Development Bank being the largest single country donor, having the largest percentage of voting power for a single country and has held the institution's Presidency since its inception in 1966. Therefore, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Fatimie's meeting with the ADB's representative to Japan, the esteemed Mr. Tomoni Tamaki, was a highly important occasion in relation to garnering continued international support for Afghanistan's continued development.

Through the ADB, Japan has contributed significantly to numerous projects and programs involving Afghanistan including the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program, the Afghan Rail System, the four-lane expressway connecting Kabul and Peshawar through Jalalabad, and the much anticipated Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, which are not only vital for Afghanistan but also for the broader region and indeed the world. On behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie repeatedly communicated immense appreciation for Japan's implementation and support of such projects and programs, while other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
