Ambassador Fatimie meets with Hon. Senator McCain

August 22, 2013: Ambassador Dr. Sayed M. Amin Fatimie had the opportune occasion to meet with Hon. Senator John McCain of the United States of America. As the Hon, Senator was scheduled to visit Japan, the two gentlemen shared a flight into Tokyo.

The friendly and cordial exchange between the gentlemen allowed for discussion on a number of issues. Firstly, the Ambassador expressed, on behalf of the people and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, deepest gratitude for the cooperation that the United States has extended to Afghanistan in the areas of peace and security, development, and support of democracy. Ambassador Dr. Fatimie further stated that this cooperation is humbly requested to be continued into the future in the periods of transition and transformation over the coming years.

Hon. Senator McCain kindly responded that his noble nation intends to remain steadfast in its partnership with Afghanistan. Regarding a bilateral security agreement (BSA), Ambassador Dr. Fatimie referred to the necessity for such an agreement to facilitate the two allies’ common goal of combating terrorism. Hon. Senator McCain stated that a BSA is important not only for Afghanistan and the United States, but also for the region and the world.
