Japan Donates $1million worth of equipment to Kandahar police

Kandahar, December 8, 2004 – A ceremony was held to donate requisite equipment of radios and vehicles to Kandahar Police. Ambassador of Japan Norihiro Okuda, Governor of Kandahar Pashutoon, Police Chief Khan Muhamad and other prominent guests attended the ceremony.

In his speech given during the ceremony, Ambassador Okuda emphasized the importance of police force and encouraged those who attended to jointly make a difference to bring stability in Afghanistan.

The Japanese donation of equipment worth US$ 1 million includes 190 radio transceivers and a pack of 21 automobiles of four-wheelers, mini vans and pick-up trucks. It also includes accessories to support and maintain the equipment. Simple giveaway of the equipment is not the end of the story. In addition to the provision of the equipment, Japan is going to help Kandahar. Police properly install the provided equipment and train officers on how to make full use of them.
