Medical equipment donated to western provinces

Herat/Mazar-i-Sharif, December 3 (Pajhwok Afghan News): The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) donated medical equipment worth $200,000 to four western provinces of Afghanistan on Monday.

Herat Health Director Dr. Waheed told Pajhwok Afghan News the equipment including 28 refrigerators, 4,000 cold boxes for vaccine and as many insulated bags were provided to health departments of Herat, Ghor, Farah and Badghis provinces.

A spokesman for the department, Muhammad Rafiq Sherzai said the donated apparatus would ensure maintaining appropriate vaccine temperatures during medical teams trips to remote districts.

Meanwhile, the building of the Nimroz revenue office was constructed to international standards and equipped with modern facilities. Revenue Director Muhammad Hashim said the construction of the office cost $200,000 provided by the provincial government.

Elsewhere, a school was built with the help of US forces stationed in the Balkh district. Education Director Muhammad Zahir Pinhan said the school catering to the need of 2000 students was constructed in six months at the cost of $195,000.
