Rural Farmers Benefit From Milk Processing Plant Opening In Nangarhar

Milk

The Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock opened the region's first dairy processing facility in Nangarhar province and is planning to use the model to expand such free-market enterprises around the country. Such a plant is vital for the country's food security and has been an important source of employment and provider of a large sales market for rural farmers, with more than 1,500 dairy farmers involved in this one project alone. The milk is used for products such as fresh milk, sour cream, yogurt, cheese ice cream and butter after having been collected from farmers in villages across the province.
