Japan to cooperate in polio, other vaccinations

Japan has agreed to provide US$13 million in assistance to provide nation-wide vaccination for polio and other diseases. To this end, a signing ceremony was held between H.E. Ambassador Hiroshi Takahashi of Japan and UNICEF’s Representative in Afghanistan, Mr. Peter Crowley. Representatives of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were present, praising this latest support in the legacy of noble cooperation extended respectively by Japan and the United Nations.

Afghanistan is one of only a few nations that have cases of polio, but it is nearly eradicated with 34 cases found this year compared to 80 last year.
