First Wind Farm to Open

KABUL, October 29 (UPI): Afghanistan’s first wind farm is set to be unveiled on Nov. 10.

The project was a cooperative effort on the part of the International Security Assistance Force's Panjsher Provincial Reconstruction Team and the local workforce.

There was also a New Zealand-based contractor brought in to help ISAF's engineers build the $977,000 hybrid power generation and distribution system. The new system will be able to provide wind power as well as running water, hot water and a septic system for a new government facility.

ISAF Chief Engineer Jason Aftanas said the project will prove to be a good feasibility study for larger projects in the country.
