Dr Fraidoon Noorzad, who helped set up two of Afghanistan’s largest banks, Kabul Bank and Azizi Bank, told Quqnoos.com: "Maiwand Bank will introduce an Islamic style banking system with the aim of helping the Afghan people and the country’s economy.

"The bank will set up with about $11 million and will establish branches in Mazar, Kandahar, Herat, Kunduz, Kandahar and Jalalabad in the next three months. The Kabul branch will open in about two weeks.”

He hopes the bank will provide modern services that will help improve the overall banking system.
