ASSRD to honour 'star students'

Kabul, January 20, 2008 (Pajhwok News): The Afghan Society for Social Reform and Development (ASSRD) has said it will honour talented pupils from all high schools across Kabul under a programme called star students.

More than a hundred boy and girl students would be given gifts and appreciation letters as part of the programme aimed at encouraging youths to focus on their education and studies, the group said on Sunday.

"As Afghanistan is facing a severe vacuum in the field of education after three decades of conflict, we believe the only that can bring prosperity and peace to the country is education," ASSRD observed.

The programme was partly sponsored by the Areeba private mobile company and the Shamshad television channel, the Society said in a statement emailed to Pajhwok Afghan News.
