World Earth Day Commemorated In Afghanistan

World Earth Day was keenly commemorated in Afghanistan with increasing environmental stresses occurring due to local development and international causes. His Excellency Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah spoke at a ceremony and addressed soil and groundwater contamination, air pollution and other environmental degradation in the country which has become a priority for the National Unity Government to tackle. However, inadequate funding, insecurity, climate change, a rapidly growing population, urbanization and corruption related problems such as deforestation and illegal mining result in inadequate progress being made to protect the country's beautiful and often spectacular environment.
